WHEC students select books at Waterstones Bookshop

wbs3Thanks to the generosity of Lloyds Banking Group our students have been able to select books for our school library, again this session. A group of WHEC students, who attended Edinburgh University Widening Participation Programme last session, were granted £500 to buy books for the school library.  The Widening Participation programme encourages our students to consider attending university after they have gained their school qualifications; it promotes working hard at school and encourages ambition to go on to higher education at university.
wbs2“I think it is important to allow us to choose the books for the library ourselves because we know what other people our age want.”
“Our experience at Waterstones was amazing; the staff were so helpful.”
“I’d like to thank Bookshop Assistant Christie for helping us find books and getting them ready so we could take the books we chose for ourselves, away with us back to school!”
Waterstones Bookshop staff have worked with us for a number of years now. The discount we receive from the shop helps us buy more books for the school and allows the dozen students to select and keep a book for themselves!  There is always an extra treat for the students in the form of a hot chocolate. This is served on Waterstones top floor café, with magnificent views of Edinburgh Castle visible through the huge and ornate windows.
