The Music department were delighted to host ex-pupil and world renown jazz saxophonist, Tommy Smith.

Tommy started his musical tuition here at the Wester Hailes Education Centre, before studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

As well as becoming an outstanding performer with several professionally recorded albums to his name, Tommy is the founder of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Pupils were entertained to some jazz improvisation from the award-winning musician, followed by a Question & Answer session.

A very enjoyable afternoon, resulting in some excited and inspired pupils!
