The National Discussion is an unprecedented opportunity for children, young people and those who support them to have their voices heard in a debate which will establish a compelling and consensual vision for Scottish education.
The Discussion is being co- convened by the Scottish Government and CoSLA. It is being facilitated by two independent facilitators, Professors Carol Campbell and Alma Harris, who are members of the International Council of Education Advisors.
During the National Discussion, we want to hear all voices, but particularly those who would like their voices heard, but are not often listened to.
There is much to be proud of in education in Scotland, but as we embark on an ambitious period of education reform the time is right to reflect and consider the skills and support young people will need in the future.
Our vision will consider what our education needs to look like twenty years from now but the work towards that vision will begin immediately.
You can get involved in the discussion in the way which suits you best – we have developed a range of resources for parents, young people and schools, to help prompt discussions around the country; within schools, youth organisations and in your homes. You can host a group discussion, or respond as an individual.
We appreciate the asks which there are on teachers during this term, and we are grateful for the work which is already going on as part of the Hayward Review.
We are inviting you to get involved in the discussion in the way which suits you best – we have developed a range of resources for parents, young people and schools, to help prompt discussions around the country; within schools, youth organisations and in your homes. You can host a group discussion, or respond as an individual.
You may wish to use the resources as part of a classroom lesson or homework task or you may want to encourage pupils to hold their own discussion as part of a school club.
We want to ensure we hear those pupil, teacher and school staff voices we don’t normally hear from as part of Let’s Talk Scottish Education.
The National Discussion will run until December 5 for responses before the results are analysed.
