Dear Parent/Carer,
Whilst I appreciate that this may be little consolation to some of you (as it may not include your son/daughter), it was very heartening to have a very small portion of our Senior Phase pupils back in school this week. The connection our staff have with our pupils is the best I have witnessed in my 24 years in education (I’m sure every Headteacher says that!) however seeing our pupils leave school after completing a number of essential practical tasks was a real ray of hope for me and perhaps a signal that more pupils can return in due course. Next week we have Art and Design classes on Monday and Tuesday and Science on Wednesday and Thursday. As always please keep a look our for the texts and email update for the latest information.
Next week we will launching the first phase of our Course Choice programme for S2 pupils. All documentation will be published online for you and for your son/daughter with timelines and how to complete the process online. There are also parents information evenings and pupil assembly dates that will be relevant to you as they contain important information whilst also giving you the opportunity to ask questions. Wb 8th March we will publish the details for all S3 pupils.
Throughout the course of March we are setting up a number of online meetings with our Clovenstone PS and Sighthill PS looking at how we can support transition as well as our rescheduled S1 parents evenings. There is also the small matter of changing our school name to Wester Hailes High School and we are hoping to have the current signage removed and replaced by April 2021 -by then our new astro turf pitch should be fully functional and this will turn a personal 4 year ambition of mine from concept to reality and bring some much needed outdoor resources to our school campus and community.
Finally in this update we are having a virtual event today for Purple Friday. You may remember we did a virtual event back in December with one of key partners – Show Racism the Red Card and this event today is another key feature of work in Equalities. We should be able to post some photos of the virtual event next week on our website however in the meantime if you, or you son/daughter has any concerns about Equalities please email us confidentially at admin@whec.edin.sch.uk with the title of the email
FAO – Ms Walker -Equalities Coordinator.
As always, stay safe and healthy and don’t hesitate to contact us at the school.
