Headteacher’s Update 19.03.21

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope the recent fair weather and having your son/daughter back in school (albeit on a limited basis at the moment) has brought a smile to your face. This, as well as the prospect of a haircut and the hint of hospitality reopening will have ‘lifted’ spirits following the ‘darker’ times of January and February. I write to this week with a updates on how school has gone this week and with some more good news on the not too distant horizon.

Phase 2 – Return to face to face to learning (until Thursday 1st April)

It has been a real pleasure to have our pupils back in school and despite some grumpy teenage angst about school uniform for example; things couldn’t have gone any better. In the remaining two weeks left before the Easter break we want to keep things the same except for 4th, 5th and 6th year pupils. As you know they are working towards an alternative certification model (ACM) this session and we want to offer them an additional block of time in school. This will be primarily aimed at those working towards N5, Higher and Advanced Higher and pupils will have the option to stay on in school beyond their daily double period for an additional 50 mins. This will be in consultation with their subject teachers and will commence from Monday 22nd March

Phase 3 – Return to face to face learning from Tuesday 20th April

It seems strange to talk about the Easter holidays (Friday 2nd April to Monday 19th April inclusive) as the term has been so fragmented. Nevertheless we are very optimistic that things will look a bit more ‘normal’ (dare I say it) and school should look and feel like it did back pre-lockdown. I will update you on this next week.

Rebrand – Wester Hailes High School

You may be aware that prior to COVID and subsequent lockdowns we were intent, as part of the cross party working group, to change the school name. Our aim is to move to Wester Hailes High School formally by June 21. There will be more comms on this over the next week with updates on our uniform, signage and various other symbols that will highlight the new rebrand.

Best wishes
