During our week long celebration of Scottish authors and books, we were pleased to welcome new Scottish author Kirkland Ciccone to the school Library. Kirkland has just published his second Young Adult novel, Endless Empress – so we were able to buy copies “hot off the press”! He also signed postcards for us and copies of his first novel, Conjuring the Infinite. We asked if he had his next writing project planned and he told us he already had plans for his next two novels!

Kirkland entertained an enthralled audience of senior students, studying National 5 and Higher English, presenting a power point of his “early life story” in Cumbernauld which caused great hilarity!

In 2014 we are incredibly fortunate to have so many talented authors writing for Teens and Young Adults …and so many of them are from Scotland; indeed many live in Edinburgh and Glasgow! Displays of “Scottish” library books have been available, all week, for students to borrow. Authors Live interviews,  broadcast from BBC Scotland in Glasgow, have also been shown throughout the week and our S1 students have all had an opportunity to choose a book that they can take home, that they can keep!
