Annual Teen Titles Celebration

tt3

Our school Librarian accompanied S3 students to Edinburgh city centre on a warm mid-August evening. They took in the sights and sounds of the Fringe Festival in the High Street before heading for Teen Titles Celebration.

Many authors from across the UK and from around the world, are in Edinburgh in August, to attend the famous International Book Festival. This offers an ideal opportunity for Edinburgh school librarians to invite lots of authors to an annual get together to celebrate Teen Titles. This year’s event was held in the prestigious Reference Room, Edinburgh Central Library.

Teen Titles is a City of Edinburgh youth magazine. Pupils, from all Edinburgh secondary schools are encouraged to contribute to the magazine – author interview and book recommendations are then published in Teen Titles magazine.

Now in its 23 year, Teen Titles magazine is unique in the country, as it sources its reviews entirely from secondary school pupils in our city’s schools. Authors writing for teenagers and young adults, book Publishers and Literary Agents, all attended this evening celebration. Amidst the chatter, laughter and canapés, our five enthusiastic S3 students met their favourite authors’ and gathered autographs!

The evening finished with author Cathy MacPhail, winner of this year’s Scottish Children’s Book Awards, thanking all the young people for their book reviews and for supporting the huge number of authors writing here, in Scotland.tt2TT1
