The Student Support Team selected students who needed extra support in school to raise their attendance in November 2013. These students do not always have the poorest attendance figures and may or may not have EWO involvement or any other external support, however an improvement needed to be made. Prevention rather than cure – early intervention is essential to alleviate any concerns relating to students reaching their potential in school is the rationale behind a small attendance group that met weekly to explore the importance of attendance, develops interpersonal skills and confidence. This year the group of 6 students were rewarded with free cinema tickets courtesy of the Odeon Cinema on Lothian Road which we thank for their continued support – a fantastic incentive during the programme and it worked! The students have kept up their attendance all year and are most importantly feeling confident about attendance school.
