Support for Students
We operate a House system in the school. Each of our three Houses is led by a Support for Student Leader:
Bruce House: Michelle Gordon
MacDonald House: Clare Ramsay
Wallace House: Maggie Pagliarulo
Houses are organised into family groupings and Student Support Leaders get to know students well from the point of P7/S1 Transition up to the point when they leave school and enter into a positive career destination. We are supported further by Depute Head Teachers: Miss Walker S1 – 3 and Mr Heggie S4 – 6.
Personal and Social Education Programme
Support for Students Leaders teach Personal and Social Education to all students S1- S6. The PSE programme is designed to develop personal, social and vocational skills. At its heart is the development of the whole child and it aims to develop students’ life skills, preparing them for a wide variety of situations which may arise in school and in their wider life. We aim also to develop each child’s confidence to enable them to make healthy lifestyle choices.
The PSE programme has been developed in line with the Health and Wellbeing aspect of Curriculum for Excellence. The content includes Health, Personal Safety, Citizenship, Careers Education, course choices. During their High School career, students will study various elements within these categories which are age appropriate and relevant to them.
Work experience and wider achievement opportunities are co-ordinated by Support for Students. Students from S4 upwards have opportunities to gain valuable placements in a wide range of industries. We also work in close partnership with other agencies and outside speakers who contribute to the delivery of the curriculum.
The school has an ‘in-house’ counselling service for students, pupils can refer themselves or Guidance staff may suggest that it might be useful to have some sessions. Students can talk about their problems at school or home in a confidential setting.
Support for Students Leaders work closely with our Careers Advisor, Chris Brand of Skills Development Scotland to ensure that all students gain advice and support to help plan for a positive destination when they leave school.
