As part of our primary cluster transition programme, P7 pupils attend lessons in Maths and English, each Thursday morning, here in Wester Hailes Education Centre.  As well as lessons, we like to encourage reading for pleasure across all age groups. Children who read for pleasure succeed in school. We were delighted when author Lari Don accepted an invitation to visit our school. Lari talked about stories, about writing her books and in particular, her Fabled Beast Chronicles series – which several of the primary schools had been reading together. As well as an author, Lari Don is an experienced storyteller and so her relaxed and friendly manner soon had the youngsters sharing their own story and character ideas with her! A number of WHEC students from S2 and S6 also have reviewed Lari’s books for Edinburgh’s Teen Titles publication and were glad of the opportunity to speak with her informally. All pupils and students attending, received a signed postcard from the author and the opportunity to buy one of her books at discount. We look forward to a return visit from Lari Don.
