The John Byrne Award is a highly competitive and prestigious arts prize awarded annually to S6 students in Edinburgh.
Our entry this year, Samke Nene, progressed to the final stages of the selection process and on Friday 21st November attended a prize giving ceremony at the Edinburgh College of Art. Samke’s presentation was both eloquent and reflective and she was praised by the judges. Her piece ‘Breaking Free’ describes her life first in South Africa and now in Edinburgh.
Accompanied by other S6 pupils Samke attended the reception where guests included the actor Peter Capaldi and the artist John Byrne. A wonderful evening was had by all!
