Dear Parent/Carer,
First and foremost I hope this update finds you and your family safe and well. I have no doubt you will be aware of the government ‘numbers’ at the moment and the potential risk/impact to all communities and services if these are not suppressed effectively. That being said, I realise that for many parents the thought of another lockdown represents a different set of challenges and whilst it is unclear how long the lockdown will ultimately last, we do know that our status will remain the same until the review takes place on 1st February.
Our imminent priorities are threefold.
- Health and Safety Mitigations and current Scottish Government advice
You can find the latest Scottish Government advice for schools here.
- Provision for Keyworkers
Strategic Lead – Ms J Walker

Email – admin@whec.edin.sch.uk
Over the last two days we have been organising our staff and resources so we can provide childcare and learning zones for keyworker children in our school. Our Pupil Support staff have been instrumental in supporting this and so far things have gone smoothly.
- Remote (online learning)
Strategic Lead – Ms D Heritage
Telephone – 0131 442 2201
Email – admin@whec.edin.sch.uk
Ms Heritage will lead this across all year groups and will submit a plan that will include
Where the online material is for each age and stage
How it can be accessed
What support can be offered
Prior to this lockdown, we had invested a great deal of time with all our S4,S5 and S6 pupils training them how to access work on Microsoft TEAMS and we’re confident that, with their teachers support, they will be able to access a wide range of materials for each of their subjects. For those in S3 we are currently devising an approach providing a combination of project work and subject specific work. For all S1 and S2, we will be using a range of City of Edinburgh Council resources and bespoke resources where applicable. In the meantime, this link may be useful if you want some additional resources
I will endeavour to update you every week with an update of where we are and what you might expect the following week. In the meantime, please stay COVID safe and ‘watch’ yersel in the treacherous weather conditions.
Best Wishes
D Young
