This week, students in the N5/Higher Geography class visited all 3 stages of the Water of Leith on a beautiful day in September. We took the mini bus to near the source, just south of Balerno, then onto Slateford at the middle course, then to the mouth of the river at Leith. The group measured the depth, velocity and water quality of the cities river. Ruth Prince the education officer who worked with us to achieve results, was impressed with the group and really enjoyed working with our students. The students will use results to prepare a report for the SQA as part of their exam. Thanks also to Edie Kadiu for driving and being the official photographer. Nobody fell in but some got wetter than others!
The Water of Leith Visitor Centre based at Slateford, round the corner from Sainsburys, has a free exhibition which is well worth a look. They are also currently looking for volunteers to help with river clean ups.
