The Art Room Wester Hailes has now been part of the school for almost a whole year, during this time the Art Room staff – Thomasina Hurrell, Jessica Beale, Alex Bowie and Katie Rowland have seen so much positive development from their interactions with our young people.

They have had the opportunity to work with a successful artist, Kevin Harman. Kevin comes from Wester Hailes and attended WHEC and the staff felt that that connection was really important. He was very moved by his time with the children and with the work that The Art Room do. What remains of that interaction is a permanent art work in the playground – a billboard that changes regularly to provoke response and conversation. The students will also have the opportunity to show their art work on the billboard.
The students have also created work for around the school promoting a real sense of pride for their achievements and they recently visited a gallery. Above all they have forged very strong and warm connections with the staff of The Art Room.
